Hot Water Systems
The twentieth century saw a proliferation of domestic water heating systems, used for both tap water and central heating. For many years it was understood that these hot water taps could not be used on Shabbos, but could be used on Yom Tov. However, recent technological advances, along with their advantages of increased efficiency and speed of delivery, have brought many halachic challenges. This means that many households can not safely use their hot water systems on Yom Tov, let alone on Shabbos.
