5784 was an extraordinarily difficult year for Am Yisroel.
As we approach this time of year once again—Simchas Torah, or in Chutz L’Aretz, Shmini Atzeres—we are faced with a challenging question:

How do we celebrate on a day now marked by profound mourning? Conversely, how can we mourn on a day meant for joyous celebration?
