Handling Cash

From time to time, Federation employees and volunteers may be required to take receipt of cash or cheque payments which then require banking.

The Federation’s insurance policy outlines the following limits of liability to cover for any one occurrence:

Cash on premises during business hours

Up to £4000

Cash on premises overnight

£500, or £2500 if kept in a locked safe

Cash in collection tins

Cash in transit

£4000 (as long as the individuals are covered by the Federation’s insurance policy, e.g employees)

Risk precautions

Before taking cash to the bank, the following precautions should be implemented

  • If you go to the bank regularly, vary the times that you do so
  • Do not carry cash in a manner that clearly identifies it as such
  • Wherever possible, do not take cash to the bank alone
