finchley news
The Rav and Rebbetzin, alongside a dedicated team of young couples, were thrilled to launch our young professional’s network in July with an intimate Friday night dinner. With a desire to embrace the young professionals in the surrounding areas into our growing community, the evening was filled with conversation, education, food, laughter, Torah and warmth and enabled our guests to witness the amazing aspects that epitomise our community. Encouraged by the incredibly positive feedback, we already have plans in place for our next young professionals event at the end of August and are looking forward to embracing new faces into our growing community. Watch this space!
hendon beis hamedrash news
After two and a half years of learning Maseches Sanhedrin a siyum was held to celebrate its completion on Wednesday 26th July.
Not only did the gentlemen who learnt with Dayan Lichtenstein attend, but also those from the minyan who really wanted to experience a wonderful simcha such as this.
The Dayan concluded the masechta with calls of mazal tov and all who attended then sat down to a feast of food and drink. Notwithstanding the nine days, meat and wine was served, as is permitted at a siyum.
The Dayan was thanked by all who learned with him and was presented with a set of seforim. The Dayan in turn also thanked all those who attended each week over two and a half years.
Everyone enjoyed this wonderful evening…..roll on the next siyum!

kehillas netzach yisroel news
Kehillas Netzach Yisroel held their annual summer BBQ and sports day this year on Sunday 23 July, with a turnout of nearly 200 people. Catering for families across all ages, it was a chance for chevra from across the kehilla to connect and bond in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. The day was packed with activities including cricket, table tennis, football, fun-casino, tug-of-war, bouncy castles, and a whole range of sports activities for kids, including certificates and prizes.
“This annual event is one of the highlights of our calendar, ” says Rabbi Dovid Roberts. “As a growth-focused kehilla, it is so important to balance what we do by creating opportunities for families to connect in a social and fun atmosphere. It gives Raquel and me such nachas to see so many committed members plan, organise and participate in such a successful event, wearing an open smile the entire day.”
The event also boasted an authentic South African ‘Braai’ which allowed folks to cram in all the meat they could before shkiyah and the onset of the 9 days.

Yeshurun Visit to East End of London
A Walking Tour of the East End of London was another programme arranged by Rabbi Landau, our assistant Rabbi, for the members of the Yeshurun Shul. On July 16th we met at Aldgate for the start of a walk that led us around that area, onto Whitechapel and finishing in Stepney Green.
Professional guide Johnny Taylor gave us the background to the settlement of the Jews in the East End as we visited the site of former shuls, shops, factories, community centres, hospitals and cemeteries. It was a fascinating look into the history and development of the community.
Johnny is determined to ensure that as many of the sites and signs of the Jewish East End are preserved and restored for future generations to see. It was so interesting to see the different community organisations represented there, the Spanish and Portuguese Bevis Marks Shul and its first Cemetery, the Novo, which is within the grounds of Queen Mary University in Whitechapel; the former Federation Fieldgate Street Shul were two examples.
We ended the walk with the surprise Johnny had promised us, entry into Temple Court, 52 Rectory Square, a truly magnificent building and we hope that future visitors there will love the surprise too.
