What is a get?

A get is a document, handwritten in Hebrew and Aramaic, by means of which Jews are divorced in Jewish law. The word is also used to refer to Jewish divorce proceedings as a whole. Whenever a Jewish man and Jewish woman marry in a manner which is recognised as valid in Jewish law, a get will be required to disolve that marriage.
